With so many stores, courses, and online services vying for your attention, there’s a good chance your Gmail inbox is flooded with junk, SPAM, and a few other types of ads. So today we are going to show you different ways block receipt of these emails in Gmail.

Our guide will show how you can filter out unwanted emails using various methods, including spam reportby blocking contacts or even using the automatic unsubscribe tool available in the Gmail interface.

After learning in a few minutes you will have cleaner inbox – and possibly easier to manage for future days. Let’s start?

How to block emails in Gmail?

Block email address via PC/web interface

  1. Go to the Gmail website at: https://gmail.com/
  2. Enter your email address and password if you are not logged in
  3. open message from the sender you want to block
  4. Press on 3 dot button on the right side
  5. select an option “Block…”which will display the sender’s name:

If you want to remove a contact from the blocked list (or view registered data), just click on the icon gear icon, in the upper right corner of the screen. then go to View All Settings > Blocked Filters and Addresses.

Block an email address in the Gmail mobile app

The procedure on a smartphone or tablet is very similar. Open the app and enter your credentials if you are not already logged into the interface. After, open an email message from the sender you want to block. Inside the message body you will see 3 dot button. Click on it and select an option “Block…”as below:

Just be aware that there are two buttons with three dots on the Gmail smartphone interface. Use what’s inside the email message sender to block.

How to unsubscribe from promotional emails

If you receive emails from a website, store or service that you are no longer interested in, the important option is “Unsubscribe”. What it does is automatically unsubscribe from your email address so that the store stops sending you future ads or promotions without having to do this manually.

On a PC, simply open an email message and search for “Unsubscribe” at the top of the screen, next to the sender’s name:

Unsubscribe from Gmail

In the mobile app, this option is available on the 3-dot button. which is located at the top of the screen. Simply select it to unsubscribe from promotional emails immediately.

Did not work? Report spam or phishing

The last, more drastic option you can go for in aggressive ad campaigns that keep changing senders or for junk emails is “Report Spam”. It is available in the same menu that we have seen so far and can be accessed both on PC and smartphone or tablet.

The last blocking option is “Report Phishing”. O Phishing is an attempt to scam which uses the appearance of something legitimate (e.g. a fake banking email address, cloning your banking institution’s identity) to collect your data in an attempt to deceive the user.

This method is a more serious complaint, so it should be used in fact when there is a suspicion that the sender is false and that he impersonates a third party. By selecting the “Report Phishing” option, you will automatically delete the message and block all future communication attempts from the sender. To cancel the procedure, follow the steps above in the Gmail settings menu.

In fact, here at Mundo Conectado we have a complete guide on the subject as the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly intensified this type of activity. Check out the full article below:
