The 18-metre rocket with the 25-kilogram satellite was launched from the spaceport on the Mahiya Peninsula in New Zealand on June 28 at 12:55 a.m. Kyiv time.
CAPSTONE is going to the moon to test the stability of the orbiter NASA plans to use for the future Gateway space station.
NASA is expected to enter lunar orbit on November 13.
The CAPSTONE mini-satellite was scheduled to launch in May, but was delayed several times to test systems and conduct other tests.
