Enjoy CEO Ron Johnson lays off hundreds of UK and Canadian workers in Zoom meeting

The grim picture was the unceremonious end to a week of uncertainty at the company, and after Motherboard reported that the company told employees it was “hopeful” it could pay back what it owed them.
Some of them told the publication that they finally got paid, but the startup Enjoy is in its last moments.
Thursday morning, according to Bloomberg Law Enjoy has filed for bankruptcy and is exploring a sale.
In the video, Johnson says that after the consultation process “This has resulted in all UK employees (adding) attachments.” We regret to inform you that the Board of Enjoy is today placing all UK employees on redundancy notice.
Enjoy is an e-commerce platform.
“I understand that this is not the result that any of us wanted. Over the last four years we have worked together to build a profitable business in the UK. But as we all know, the challenge was to get the economic unit right.”He added.
He then spoke about his operations in Canada, where, Johnson said, “hard work” had been done but “medium-term profitability” was not in sight.
“Unfortunately, effective today we will also be closing our operations in Canada. Like you, the Canadian teams have worked hard to build a successful business, but we don’t see a profitable medium-term path in Canada either.”CEO of Enjoy said.
As for its operations in the United States, Johnson admitted that they were in talks with Asurion to reach a financial agreement that would “provide capital to continue operating while we restructure our business.”
Enjoy is half delivery, half tech support company. Johnson’s vision was to bring the retail store into consumers’ homes. where they could try different products and an expert would help them decide what to buy.
Enjoy focused on telecommunications and electronics, partnering with phone companies, but also had ambitions to expand into other sectors such as fashion.
