Yesterday, NVIDIA released the NVIDIA Shield for device users, updating its firmware, shield Experience Upgrade v9.1, which can now be downloaded and installed by all its users, and which among its innovations includes a feature that has personally greatly increased my interest in getting an NVIDIA Shield. I could say it’s something I’ve been waiting years for in TVs and devices, but I’d be lying because it’s actually something I think should have become mainstream decades ago.

And I know it’s not a minority desire, but something I’ve talked about on thousands of occasions with so many people and I’ve always come to the conclusion that we all wanted something like this. And that is what is identified with the name «Night listening mode«, we find a function that after activation it automatically adjusts the volume of what we play to normalize it and thus avoid surprises.

To put this into context and better understand this new NVIDIA Shield feature, have you ever seen a movie or series? with the controller in hand so you can constantly increase and decrease the volume? From the thunderous sounds of explosions and other sound effects to whispered rather than spoken dialogue, the audio range of many audiovisual productions can be a headache if, for whatever reason, we want everything to sound reasonably smooth.

That’s exactly what this new NVIDIA Shield firmware feature offers, which automatically adjusts the volume of what we’re listening to when HDMI is used for the audio signal, to enjoy normal sound. Either by not disturbing roommates and/or neighbors, or even if we like to resort to movies and series to fall asleep, we can do so with the peace of mind that we won’t wake up startled ten minutes later. because of the sound effect.
