Norway is modernizing its former M113 armored personnel carrier (APC) fleet, which has been in service since 1960. Defense Blog writes that US-made machines will receive new electronic equipment.
Armored personnel carriers are modernized in the middle of their service life. MilDef will provide equipment to the Norwegian Defense Material Agency (NDMA) to develop vehicles in 2022-2023.
It was stated that the modernized M113 will receive new screens, computers and equipment for the management of the troops. The cost of equipment to be delivered in 2022 will be approximately $1.1 million, and approximately $6.7 million will be spent on modernization in 2023.
Serial production of the M113 armored personnel carrier began in 1960. The basic version of the tracked vehicle received aluminum armor and a gasoline engine. The M113 arsenal includes the M2HB heavy machine gun.
