While the whole world is discussing the possible announcement of Apple’s first VR/AR helmet at the end of 2022, Japan has already introduced augmented reality technology into the daily lives of many citizens.
According to the Nikkei Asian Review, computerized augmented reality glasses in Nagano Prefecture are being used to help the elderly shop remotely. The device, called RemoPick, is being developed by the experts of the Toppan subsidiary.
The system works quite simply: a store employee puts on his glasses and then moves from shelf to shelf, inspecting the desired products. In turn, the older client selects the positions he needs using a special app and gives tips in voice chat.
Currently, the technology is kicking in and is in the testing phase. The second phase of testing its performance is scheduled for September. Full release could happen as early as April 2023.
