Meta Platforms has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system that can scan a Wikipedia article, analyze the sources the article cites, and determine if some need to be changed.

It is stated that Wikipedia editors work by verifying the source from which the information is cited to ensure that the information in a Wikipedia article is correct. It can take a long time to check all the sources cited in an article.
Meta’s AI-based system aims to make the work of Wikipedia editors easier by partially automating the review of sources in articles. The system can scan an article and determine if it contains a piece of information supported by a suspicious source. It can also suggest more relevant resources.
For example, a Wikipedia article about a particular Apple product may inadvertently link to a page on Apple’s website where an entirely different product is discussed. The developed system can identify such a source is false and suggest the correct page on Apple’s website to which the Wikipedia article should link.
Meta trained this system to detect false sources by training it on four million pieces of text information from Wikipedia. In addition, Meta has created a database called Sphere, which contains 134 million documents obtained from the open web. When the AI-based system finds a questionable source in a Wikipedia article, it searches Sphere’s data to find a more relevant one.
