In the USA, a new generation of SPY-6 radar stations is being developed, designed to combat modern high-precision weapons. The National Interest reports that the SPY-6 radar will help the US Navy fight the wars of the future.

Radars of the SPY-6 family are installed on destroyers, amphibious ships and aircraft carriers. They are said to be 30 times more sensitive than SPY-1D (V) radars, which can detect low-flying targets in cramped conditions.

The most sensitive device is the SPY-6 V(1) phased array radar installed on the Arleigh Burke destroyer of the Flight III series. The radar received 37 radar modules that allow the detection of aircraft and drones, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles.

“The idea behind the SPY-6 radar is to more accurately identify oncoming threats and enemy attacks at much greater distances, giving ship commanders more time and decision-making power. This phenomenon is of paramount importance in today’s global threat landscape, where potential competitors are rapidly developing high-precision, longer-range weapons and electronic warfare systems,” writes The National Interest.
