Our Readers Speak: If you could smell video games, which one would you say is the stinkiest?

Imagine that we will reach a point where technology has advanced enough that eventually we can feel video games on another level. We are no longer limited to the classic vibration of the controls, we now feel the video games in our bodies more realistically, we feel hot or cold depending on the level we are on, and we also feel the smell of the scene.

I personally believe that many video games would be unbearable if we could feel certain scenes and certain levels. Think of the Resident Evil or DOOM franchise for example, although I could give you many other examples that would obviously not be suitable for sensitive stomachs. The combination of rotting flesh along with the peculiar aroma that the various enemies that populate both games must expel would be quite difficult to “digest”.

This is a topic I have thought deeply about on more than one occasion, the idea of how to maximize the realism of video games. can end up being a terrible experience and in the most literal sense of the word. While playing, we can go through hostile areas without getting tired and without having to deal with inclement weather or the damage or injury that the character takes, and we also don’t have to put up with unpleasant smells that would be present in different locations. .

Days Gone spawn lair

I think few gamers would be willing to accept these feelings in an attempt to push video game realism to an extreme level, and personally I’m sure some titles would be humanly impossible to play in those conditions. If I’m going to stick to smell and answer the question that serves as the title of this opinion piece, I think the worst smelling game I’ve enjoyed would be A Plague Tale Innocence, especially in the level where we have to walk through a battlefield littered with rotting corpses, blood, mud and rats.

There are plenty of other titles that wouldn’t “smell” either, such as the Silent Hill saga, spawn lairs in Days Gone, and certain locations in the Dark Souls franchise, and this just confirms what I’ve already told you. Realism in video games is overrated in this regard, and it’s best not to go to these extremes. Now it’s your turn which game and scene do you think would “smell worse” if you smelled it? Read in the comments.
