As Channel 24 reported, information about the blocking of the Google search engine appeared on the Telegram channel of Dinis Pushylin, the leader of the terrorist semi-state entity “Donetsk People’s Republic”.
The inhuman propaganda of Ukraine and the West crossed all borders long ago. There is real cruelty, imposition of lies and disinformation against the Russians. Google search engine, which is at the forefront of information technology in this regard,
– fervently carries the collaborator.
This is far from the first “difficult” position of puppet rulers that Russia has set up against tech companies on temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory. Thus, in May, citizens were banned from accessing Facebook and Instagram in this region, on the grounds that both platforms “allow calls for violence against Russian-speaking users.”
It is worth noting that this is a mirror move after Facebook and Instagram were banned in Russia for similar reasons – social networks allowed threats to kill Vladimir Putin and Russian military leaders in March.
Despite bans on various Twitter and Meta platforms, the biggest thing Russia has done against Google and its subsidiary YouTube has been fines and bankruptcy of the company’s Russian wing. Some experts believe that YouTube is too technologically complex to be replaced by an analogue on Russian soil and has no immediate substitute, unlike American social networks that have competitors and the like in Russia (not even mentioning RuTube). from VK
Could Russia technically limit Google’s work in occupied territories?
Yes, this possibility existed before, as we mentioned above, such restrictions were applied not only to Facebook and Instagram, but also to Viber messenger. In the case of the latter, it is not so easy to do and the company easily bypasses this ban.
Another thing is that such a ban would mean a new and more aggressive step in digital restrictions on temporarily occupied territories imposed by Russia. It is quite realistic for Moscow to provide the digital infrastructure to enforce such restrictions, as with weapons.
