Space company Ilona Maska SpaceX has launched an Ax-1 mission to the International Space Station, where government astronauts are not present.
Referring to Ukrinform, Hromadske, this is the first completely private mission launched into an orbital laboratory in history.
SpaceX is launching this mission together with Axiom Space, a startup that plans to build and manage the ISS’ first commercial modules and the first international commercial space station. A seat on board cost the crew $55 million.
A crew of four went to the ISS:
- Michael Lopez-Allegria, a former astronaut NASA and current Axiom staff responsible for the task;
- former Israeli Air Force pilot and businessman Eitan Stibbe;
- Mark Pati, CEO of Canadian investment firm Mavrik Corporation;
- Managing partner of American firm Connor Group Larry Connor.
The first special mission was launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Due to a successful start, the crew’s journey should last 10 days, of which 8 will spend on the ISS. There, the Ax-1 team will participate in training efforts and conduct innovative research experiments in the orbital lab.
