The American space agency NASA will send two more mini-helicopters to the Red Planet to help return the collected samples to the Martian surface.

This AR was reported by Ukrinform reports.

NASA’s Perseverance rover is expected to transport a container of material collected on Mars onto a rocket that will launch it from the Red Planet to Earth in about a decade.

However, if Perseverance fails, two helicopters currently under construction that will be launched by NASA to Mars this decade will load into the rocket instead of samples from the Martian surface.

The helicopters are modeled after NASA’s successful Ingenuity rotorcraft, which has completed 29 flights since arriving with Perseverance on Mars early last year. The weight of such a helicopter is 1.8 kg. New versions are expected to have wheels and robotic arms.

Currently, Perseverance has collected 11 samples from the Martian surface.

As Ukrinform reported, in mid-July NASA announced that the Ingenuity helicopter’s flights to Mars were suspended until August due to adverse weather conditions.
