The tablet sales market in Brazil recorded a 31% drop in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.. According to a study by IDC Brasil, between January and March this year, 713,000 items were sold, worth about 736 million reais.

Of the total registered sales, 367,000 were for retail and 346,000 were registered for the corporate sector. However, the largest decline in the number of tablets sold occurred in the first sector. This is due to the fact that retailers consumed 45% less products compared to the first quarter of last year.

“The decline in the first three months of this year was mainly due to economic problems that reduced the purchasing power of the population, such as high inflation and interest rates,” said Daniel Voltareli, ICT market analyst at IDC Brazil.

The study also showed that out of 346,000 tablets intended for the corporate market, 260,000 were intended for education. There has also been an increase in demand from companies, especially those considered small companies employing up to 99 people.

The 736 million reais generated from tablet sales in the first quarter of this year came after a 23% decline from the months of January to March last year. However, in the end, the product became more expensive, about 10% compared to the previous year.

No hope for improvement

The numbers presented by IDC Brasil may not be much better during this year. This is due to the fact that a strong decline in the tablet market is expected. Among the main factors is the slowdown in retail sales. Studies show that there will be a drop of more than 20%.

“This forecast includes the economic situation in the country with high inflation and interest rates, which reduces the purchasing power of consumers. In addition, the lack of components and rising logistics costs are also significant factors in the fall. We will probably only see a clear improvement in the script next year.”Voltarelli projects.

The same contraction can be felt in the corporate sector. Almost all segments are forecast to contract, with the exception of the private corporate sector. In it, IDC Brasil believes that tablet sales will remain stable until the end of this year.

“This rebuttal forecast is related to the political moment in a country that is going through an election year. The trend is to reduce education agreements until next year, when the presidential course is set. However, in the private enterprise market, IDC expects sales to remain flat, largely due to the current move to adapt to the new hybrid operating environment that is favoring B2B businesses.”.
