Amazon has begun sending out email alerts to users of the Amazon Drive service, confirming that it will be officially discontinued in 2023. The cloud file storage service was originally launched in 2011.
It is in testing in Australia and will also be available in other countries in the coming months.
Amazon Drive was launched by the company in March 2011 and promised 5GB of secure cloud storage space for free to users accessing the service from an iOS/Android app and from the web. Additional storage options were also available for paying users.
In a warning sent to users with files stored on Amazon Drive that are not supported by Amazon Photos, the company says that the end of the cloud file storage service will allow it to better focus on Amazon’s photo and video storage services. “will continue to provide customers with the ability to securely back up, share and organize photos and videos on Amazon Photos.”.
