In the last few hours it has been circulating on the internet and reputation which states that someone in Google has hit the red button to start demolishing Google Stadiacloud gaming service that, due to a number of circumstances, failed to achieve the expected and desired success, while other services such as GeForce NOW and Xbox Cloud achieved a relevant position in this new and still somewhat uncertain market.

The origin of this rumor which It spread like an avalanche on social networks and even quite a few media outlets got involved, we found it on the Killed by Google Twitter account, which you probably know from the article we published a month ago about failed Google projects. And it is that the following was posted from said account tweet:

In it, you see, a message from someone who claims to have been an associate of someone who would currently work for Google mentions that after a company event last week in California, Google would decide to end Stadia, the first steps in this regard will be published at the end of the summer, i.e. in September, in just over a month.

According to an anonymous source, Google would be planning the end of Stadia in a similar way to how Google Play Music did, closing the door on a hypothetical transfer of all its assets to a competing service. Of course, at this point the question arises as to what other Google services could be the beneficiary of games and Stadia users. At least at first glance, there doesn’t seem to be another service that Stadia’s remnants could naturally integrate into.

So be it, for now Google decided to respond to these rumors with humor, with a tweet indicating the beginning of the alleged anonymous testimony (mentioning a former colleague and meeting in California), but to confirm that Stadia Pro users have been able to enjoy an extra game in recent days. This response was interpreted by the community as a denial of what was stated in the Killed by Google report.

So it seems clear that Google will continue to support Stadia in the short term. However, that a simple anonymous testimony has raised so much dust is a significant sign of this low expectations of ordinary mortals with serviceand perhaps a sign that Google should find a way to somehow bring it back to the fore, even if it gets more complicated every day.
