Iryna Parkhomchuk, one of more than 60 Ukrainian interns in Canada who participated in the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program this summer, developed an app for a social worker to help people with mental health problems.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by CTV News.
“A Ukrainian student has developed a special app for the social robot Zenbo, so that it can help people as a therapeutic companion, allowing users to look at images of green spaces and seascapes, listen to slow melodies, do meditation and breathing exercises.” reads the message.
According to Parkhomchuk, the robot looks like a big toy that kids can love.
He also expressed hope to continue the research and create a similar app for laptops and mobile devices.
It was noted that the Ukrainian software engineering student applied for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship months before Putin launched a massive military invasion of Ukraine. Later, thanks to this program, he entered the Ontario University of Technology (Canada). Already at university, he talked to one of his professors about what he plans to do during his internship and suggested that he do something to help Ukraine. Parkhomchuk says there are many projects today to help people with various physical problems. He started thinking about how to help those with mental health problems, and he came up with the idea of developing a special app.
As reported by Ukrinform, the UK has given Ukraine the opportunity to implement the GoodSAM application in its emergency medical care system for free, which will help provide faster assistance to patients.
