In July of this year, 146 million cyberattacks were carried out in the IT perimeter of NEC “Ukrenergo”, 87% of which came from Russia and the temporarily occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
According to Ukrinform, the company’s chairman of the board, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, announced this on Facebook.
“146 million times some users tried to circumvent the protection of Ukrenergo’s IT networks in July. No one is hiding. Our company’s strength has been tested. 87 percent of the “appeals” are from Russia and the temporarily occupied Donetsk and Luhansk, where Russian operators work in violation of international rules coming from the region,” he said.
According to the head of the company, Ukrenergo felt the highest burden of cyber protection in the 20s, when NEC reported successful electricity exports to the EU and the state’s profit from it.
“At the beginning of the year, Russian hackers became more active when we joined the Ukrainian network ENTSO-E. In the summer – when we started helping Europe. I am grateful to our IT team, who effectively repulsed all these attacks,” added Kudrytskyi.
As reported, at the end of July, ENTSO-E more than doubled the volume of available interstate transits for electricity export/import between Ukraine and Europe. As of 28 July, the current cross-section of the electricity grids is 250 MW. First delivery day is 30 July. This transition will be shared equally between Romania and Slovakia.
At the same time, revenue from access to interstate electricity networks for the month of electricity exports to the European Union amounted to 700 million hryvnia. That’s with “old” capacity of 100 MW.
