OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage company, got its act together this week the first fifteen years on the market and the company is celebrating with a redesign of the OneDrive Home experience.
Cloud storage services are here to stay in an era of exponential growth in the amount of digital data that needs to be processed, managed and stored. The truth is that today’s offerings are very broad, with free basic services and monthly/annual subscriptions to cover any storage need and complement physical on-premise systems.
OneDrive turns 15
Microsoft’s service is one of the most important, especially in the PC segment, as the company uses its huge Windows presence to include the OneDrive client as standard in the system. If there are more popular mobile services on Windows computers, it is the most used for the above reason and additional integration with its other star software, the Microsoft (Office) 365 cloud suite.
Microsoft used the service’s anniversary to redesign the user experience with OneDrive Home with a thought “ANDHelp the user easily resume work and catch up on what they missed while they were away. OneDrive will soon show your most relevant files and list your most recent files along with activity updates, so you can see everything at a glance and quickly determine where to start working.”They explain in the ad.
To do this, use View “recently” has been improved to find these file types faster and you can now filter by file type (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx and .pdf) using the buttons at the top of the file list.
To guarantee updates, column “Exercises” on OneDrive shows the latest edits and comments on shared documents. This column also appears in the “My Files” view and displays all shares, @mentions, comments, and assigned tasks from collaborators.
Another novelty is dedicated to easy search and access to the most common files, as it will now be possible to anchor document libraries to the section Quick access in the left navigation pane of the OneDrive home page. Microsoft also promises more intuitive sharing in Office, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams applications and faster control of access to information, both when managing settings between individuals and groups.
Finally, notice the improvements in the photo and video storage section with the new feature “history of photography”, which collects all of the user’s memories in a private invite-only channel when shared with family and friends. It’s in preview for some regions on mobile for iOS and Android and will be released for all later this year.
OneDrive home page will be available in the coming months for consumers, students and professionals. We will have time to test the innovations of Microsoft’s cloud storage service, which has just completed its first fifteen years on the market.
