A mineral containing organic matter was found in samples of the asteroid Ryugu.

Scientists from the Koti Drilling Specimens Institute of Japan’s Earth and Marine Science and Technology Agency discovered one of the key minerals containing organic matter in samples from the Ryugu asteroid.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NHK.

It is noted that scientists discovered an organic substance in a silicate mineral in the composition of minerals extracted from samples taken from the Ryugu asteroid. These asteroid soil samples were delivered to Earth in 2020 by the Japanese space probe Hayabusa-2.

According to the researchers, this silicate mineral is one of the types of clay rocks that can hold water and is resistant to high temperatures.

Researcher Ito Motoo stated that such minerals are abundant on Earth.

He also added that these minerals may once have been a way to transport water and organic matter to our planet.

As Ukrinform reported, in June, Japan’s Ministry of Education announced that researchers had discovered 20 types of amino acids in samples from the asteroid Ryugu collected by the Hayabus-2 probe.
