American Airlines Group signed an agreement with the Boom Supersonic aircraft manufacturer on Tuesday to purchase up to 20 supersonic aircraft.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Reuters.
Boom CEO Blake Scholl said Boom’s order book will include 130 aircraft (including options) valued at approximately $26 billion.
Last year, United Airlines Holdings Inc agreed to purchase 15 Boom Overture aircraft, provided they meet certain safety, operational and sustainability requirements. A similar condition was part of the agreement with American airlines.
The four-engine Overture aircraft can fly from Miami to London in just under five hours, cutting flight time from nine hours to almost half.
It is stated that the first passengers will be able to use such journeys in 2029.
Designed to carry 65 to 80 passengers, the overture aircraft will run on environmentally friendly aviation fuel or a blend. The aircraft factory, located in Greensboro, North Carolina, will produce the first samples in 2025 and then begin test flights.
Return to passenger supersonic generation surfaces It comes almost two decades after the Concorde, flown by Air France and British Airways, was withdrawn from service due to an accident and high fuel and maintenance costs.
