A Chernihiv pensioner who shot down a Russian plane with a shotgun was awarded the medal “For helping to protect the state border”. For this, Valery Fedorovych needed only a few shots.
The head of the State Border Service, Serhiy Deineko, presented the pensioner with an award for dedication. This was reported by the agency’s press service on August 19.
“In the second round, as soon as the[Russian fighter plane]took off, I fired from my gun and the guys from theirs, and the gun fell to the ground.” Valery Fedorovych kept a trophy – a fragment of a fallen plane – as a souvenir.
Local residents then heard the roar of an approaching warrior, and several men, including Valeriy Fedorovych, shot at him with rifles.
Earlier, the State Border Service said that the enemy Su-34, fired by the pensioner, was shot down over Chernihiv on March 5.
Also, Chernihiv resident Valery Fedorovych helped Ukrainian soldiers and civilians during the city battles. In his basement, he protected his family from enemy bombings.
