Annapurna Interactive together with BlueTwelve Studio, a small studio in the south of France, brings us this feline adventure full of puzzles, action and exploration set in a fascinating cyberpunk world. And it’s because since its launch in July, Stray has become one of the most anticipated video games of the summer, and we at MuyComputer had the opportunity to analyze it in its PC version. Value? After a few hours of playing and finishing the game, here are our conclusions.

What is Stray about?

Alone, lost and separated from his family, A stray cat must solve an ancient mystery to escape a forgotten city. Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set in neon-lit alleys and cyber city decadent. This kitten must navigate his surroundings, fend off unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this place inhabited by androids and dangerous creatures. Along the way, the cat befriends a small flying robot known as B-12. With the help of this new partner, the two try to find a way out of the underground city.

You put yourself in the cat’s skin

As we have already said, This kitten’s goal is to return to the surface and join his family, but we have to enter the streets of the city where we will face the first challenges and puzzles, they will be a constant throughout the game. This kitten will have to do a variety of tasks, from deciphering codes (with the help of B-12), blocking ventilation systems, to connecting batteries to keep the monitors working. In addition, you will also be able to perform typical cat actions such as throwing objects on the floor, sleeping for long hours, purring or scratching the furniture; actions will allow you to unlock achievements.

Game it is very intuitive so it allows you to explore every corner of the streets without getting too lost in the city; and I mention it because the scenarios tend to be a bit labyrinthine. However, your environment will help you follow your path and complete missions; from asking android villagers for directions on how to get to a certain point, to following directions on neon signs. Additionally, you can only do jumps on certain objects marked by the game itself. You can do this on roofs, pipes, containers, air conditioners and railings.

Mission

The missions are very simple, from barrel rolling, knocking over stacks of books by climbing objects, to jumping from one place to another to meet the city’s androids; the missions have a level that I would dare say reaches medium difficulty for some missions, but nothing complex that can spoil the game experience.

Once you complete the first missions, the quest won’t take long the reason why the city is deserted. In the game, it is said that the city was used to save humanity, but with the possibility of humans changing their minds from physical to digital, there soon came a point where all that was left were memoryless robots that they don’t know. why or for what purpose are they in that decadent city.

However, a group of robots appear who dream of going to the surface and discovering what lies beyond this artificial city of the starry sky. They will be the ones who will help you in your mission to save the robots with the instructions and tasks that will enable you explore the city and thereby complete the different levels of the game… but I won’t reveal anything else about the game because we believe it’s worth playing for yourself, especially if you like felines.

What does Stray offer?

Generally speaking, what awaits you in Stray a story well told, not only because of the story of our protagonist, because we know what his last mission is, but also the story that BlueTwelve reveals to us based on the memories of the android characters that the cat finds on its way. Through challenges and puzzles, you will be able to explore the fascinating scenarios of the underground world. Its difficulty is not difficult, so it does not become so boring that you give up and leave the game without completing it.

It is a game with duration between 5 and 9 hours and which one you manage to complete in that time depending on your playing skills and if you choose to also do the tasks you find throughout the game, such as going for flowers of every color for the townspeople or finding a key in the factory sewers.

If you want to get Stray for PC, you can buy it on STEAM for €26.99 or buy it in physical format and for PSP 5 on Amazon with a discount.

NOTE

WE LIKE

It is a very intuitive game.
It is fully translated into Spanish.
Its audiovisual part is excellent.
Levels range from easy to medium difficulty.
The story and characters are likeable.

IMPROVE

It could be considered too short a game.
Subtasks can be very simple and not worth doing.

ABSTRACT

It’s a simple, beautiful and cute game. The work that the studio does in its visual part is undoubtedly exceptional. Its soundtrack is not far behind either, its musical themes well chosen for each scene and moment of tension. It also has many very real sound effects, such as cat meows and the creativity of creating a language for robots. All I can say is that it’s a little gem that you must, yes or no, play.
