OUR Apple released last Wednesday (31) an update for Iphone 5slaunched in 2013. So devices now have iOS 12.5.6. It was also available for other company devices such as the sixth generation iPod Touch and some iPads.
Paying tribute to the way devices are kept secure, the update Apple released this week aims to improve the security of devices that have stopped receiving updates over the past few years.
The patch distributed by Apple for devices contains two fixes. The first one arrived with the goal of fixing a vulnerability that allowed malicious code to be run with administrator rights through an application. Meanwhile, the second was fixing a vulnerability found in WebKit that allowed code to be run via Safari and other browsers.

Launched in 2013 with iOS 7, the iPhone 5s now has a slightly more updated version of iOS. Since the introduction of the 12th version of the system, devices have stopped receiving updates, seeing only random changes introduced by Apple.
Despite being the oldest device to receive the update, the iPhone 5s wasn’t the only one to get the update this week. This is because the manufacturer has also released fixes for ipod touch 6th generation iPad Air, iPad mini 2 as well as ipad mini 3.
“Available for iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, and iPad Touch. Exposure to malicious web content processing may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited. An out of range write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking.“, the company said.
Users who still have these devices can download the patched version just like any other update. Thus, it is necessary to access “Settings”, go to the “General” option and finally enter “Software Update”.
This is the second time Apple is trying to fix WebKit on the iPhone. The company also recently released an update to address this issue in iOS 15. However, they do not disclose if other devices and versions have this vulnerability or if they will be fixed within the next few months.
