The high-precision weapon, considered the best in Russia’s arsenal and used for attacks on Ukrainian territory, contains outdated low-tech components.
As reported by Ukrinform, The New York Times reported it.
In particular, SBU employees, in collaboration with private analysts, studied the electronics of the latest Russian cruise missiles and combat helicopters and learned that they use decades-old technologies for their manufacture. At the same time, most of the documented computer chips were produced by Western countries after 2014.
Release notes are recognized as the best in the Russian arsenal of the studied samples. But ammunition and satellite navigation systems contain low-tech components.
The findings are detailed in a new report released Saturday by Conflict Armament Research, an independent UK-based group that identifies and monitors weapons and ammunition used in wars around the world. The research team examined Russian weapons in July at the invitation of the Ukrainian government.
The report refutes Moscow’s claim that Russia’s armed forces are being modernized and can compete with Western armies.
At the same time, he points out that the weapons used by Russia to bomb Ukrainian cities and towns are often equipped with Western innovations, despite the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation after the invasion of Crimea in 2014. These restrictions were designed to stop the supply of high-tech goods that could contribute to the development of Russia’s military capabilities.
“We saw Russia use the same electronic components in a variety of weapons, including the latest cruise missiles and attack helicopters, but we didn’t expect to see them. There are many non-Russian technologies and components in Russian guided weapons, and most of the computer chips we documented were produced by Western countries after 2014. ” said.

It is unclear how Russia obtained these details. Splitters ask this question to semiconductor manufacturers, how their products are used in Russian munitions, drones, communications equipment, helicopter avionics, etc. It considers it transformed – as a result of legal or shadow purchases organized to circumvent sanctions.
Researchers examined the remains of three types of Russian cruise missiles, including the most advanced X-55 model and the newest Tornado-S guided missile. All contained the same components, labeled SN-99, which turned out to be satellite navigation receivers necessary for the missiles to fly.
The divisions noted that Russia’s use of these components indicates that limiting the supply of SN-99 components will slow Moscow’s ability to replenish its guided weapons stockpile.
As reported by Ukrinform, Russian defense and military organizations are trying to find analogues of hundreds of components for their aircraft.
