As reported by Ukrinform with reference to Digital Information World, the smartphone manufacturer also states that the attackers probably managed to steal some personal data of its customers.
On Friday, Samsung sent out an email alert to all consumers who reported the interference. It is emphasized that this event took place in the second half of July.
The company only learned what happened a week later and has now confirmed the results of its own internal investigation into the personal data breach.
While details of the incident were not disclosed, the company said that in many cases, usernames, birth dates and product registration information were stolen.
At the same time, Samsung notes that no user’s credit card or social security number has been stolen. The devices were not damaged either.
The exact number of broken gadgets is not reported.
In order to avoid similar incidents in the future, Samsung warns users to be careful, especially about suspicious emails.
Hackers want users to provide personal data and trick them into installing malware on their devices.
As Ukrinform reported, at the end of August, the government’s computer emergency response team CERT-UA, operating under the State Special Communications Service, warned of an attack by hackers on Ukrainian, Austrian and German establishments.
