Instagram plans to start testing a new feature that will allow its users to post content already posted by others on the social network, as they already do through the app’s Stories.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra was the first to notice the ability to reshare a post. Inside excitementHe recently shared his first look at the Reposts tab.
Navarra also shared the explanation that Instagram reserved for this function. The social network describes it as “a new way to share with followers.” To do this, it suggests users use it to recommend a post to their friends or start a conversation with their followers.
A spokesperson for the app confirmed the news to the dedicated TechCrunch portal. Accordingly, the idea is that users can share things that “resonate with them” and at the same time give credit to the original content creators.
Instagram first tested a Regram feature in 2017.

To do this, Instagram plans to start testing with a “small group of people” who will be allowed to repost other users’ posts on their own Feeds. As the platform spokesperson admitted, it’s a very similar functionality to what’s already available in their Stories.
The development of the feature dates back to at least last May. At that time, reverse engineering expert Alessandro Paluzzi also developed the plans of the social network from his Twitter account.
Paluzzi also pointed out that this new option will appear in the menu shown to the user when sharing certain content.
