Danish expert offers cobots with unparalleled flexibility

  • Bosch Rexroth is expanding its range of collaborative robots.
  • The seven axes allow Kassow Robots’ cobots to operate in very tight spaces and cover a wide variety of applications.
  • The acquisition enables Bosch Rexroth to offer total solutions specifically aimed at the consumer durables and mobility industries, including battery and semiconductor manufacturing.

Bosch Rexroth invests in factory automation: the company plans to acquire a majority stake in Copenhagen, Denmark-based Kassow Robots ApS, thereby expanding its Factory of the Future portfolio. Kassow Robots develops and produces collaborative robots (cobots) for industrial applications with approximately 25 employees at its sites in Copenhagen and Prague (Czech Republic). Bosch Rexroth and Kassow Robots signed a contract on this subject on March 18, 2022.

Member of the Board of Directors, who oversees Bosch Rexroth sales and factory automation. “Collaborative industrial robots are another important building block for the versatile Factory of the Future,” says Marc Wucherer. The lightweight robots from Kassow Robots can be used in various ways in industrial production. Cobots have a high load capacity and range and can be used in the narrowest of spaces. With seven axes, a Kassow Robots cobot can grip objects in corners like an arm, with flexibility unmatched in the market to date.

“There is a huge demand for flexible robotic systems,” Wucherer says. The cobot market is expected to grow by 15 to 20 percent per year in the coming years. We want to leverage this potential and expand our portfolio with collaborative robots from Kassow Robots. This will particularly benefit our customers in the consumer durables and mobility industries, including battery and semiconductor manufacturing.” Global cobot sales were approximately $670 million in 2019 (source: Interact Analysis, 2021).

Bosch Rexroth Will Facilitate Kassow Robots Global Expansion

Kristian Kassow, founder, director and shareholder of the company, said: “With Bosch Rexroth, we have found a business partner, the international leader in factory automation, who can help us expand our business activities. “This will allow us to open up new markets for our cobot portfolio .”

Since the start of sales of the first two cobot models in 2019, the company’s product range has grown to five collaborative robot models. These models offer a range of 850 to 1800 millimeters, a payload of 5 to 18 kilograms and can reach joint speeds of up to 225 degrees per second. All models have seven axes and are easy to program and operate. The software provides a modular platform that allows for easy integration of peripherals such as grippers, vision systems or other custom functions.

The combination of reach and payload allows cobots to perform a wide range of automation tasks, from packaging, machine loading and pick-and-place applications to visual quality control. Integration costs are much lower compared to smaller industrial robots. Due to the inherent safety and low mass of cobots, less effort is made to make the cobots safe. Since 2019, Kassow Robots has been achieving three-digit sales of cobots. Bosch Rexroth plans to significantly expand the company internationally.

Bosch Rexroth develops the Factory of the Future

Only floors, ceilings and walls are fixed and connected. Everything else will be changeable and flexible. This is how Bosch Rexroth sees the Factory of the Future. The company is constantly launching solutions that best fit this concept. The portfolio includes software for production, drive and control technology, digital assistance systems for employees and smart production and transport robots. Collaborative robots for a wide range of plant applications have been added to the Rexroth portfolio, along with Kassow Robots’ cobots.
