Google is close to launching a new cheaper Chromecast. Rumors have been floating around since the beginning of the year, but the launch could happen in the coming weeks, according to information released by WinFuture.
Currently, the company has a presentation scheduled to take place on October 6th. If the rumors are true, it is expected that the first details about the new device will be presented at this conference, which is organized by Google.
The leaks indicate that the company’s streaming stick will cost €40 in Europe. This is significantly cheaper than the Chromecast 4k, which currently sells for €70. By comparison, the 2018 Chromecast retailed for €40 in Europe and $30 in the US at launch.
The new device is expected to arrive in 1080p resolution and be able to run Android 12. No official word from the manufacturer yet, but it is expected to hit the market under the name Chromecast HD with Google TV.
A leaked report this year revealed that the flash drive will be powered by the AMlogic S805X2 chipset, capable of supporting AV1 decoding and having 2GB of RAM. To provide a better connection, the Chromecast will be able to connect to Wi-Fi on the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands.
Despite the launch of a new device, Google is also concerned about improving the performance of those devices that are already on the market. The company recently released an update for 4K streaming that aims to reduce CPU and RAM usage.
In order to leave behind all the performance issues that have so far manifested in already released devices, the update also allows the device to free up internal space as needed.
However, the main question surrounding the launch of the Chromecast HD with Google TV is whether the device’s low manufacturing cost will create the same problems as previous devices. However, this discovery will only be possible after launch.
Google admits: Google TV software is too slow
Fixes should start rolling out to devices over the next few days.
