It seems to have been talked about for several months the chance that Apple is preparing a new Mac Mini is greater than you would expect. And that’s because although the company missed any mention of this compact computer at its last event in early March, it seems that there are now some indications that it is already working to update this model.
This was shared by developer Steve Troughton-Smith through message on Twitterand make sure you find it links to what the new Mac Mini might be hidden in the Studio Display firmware. Specifically, this firmware would mention a hitherto unknown device under the name “Macmini10,1”, quite inconspicuous, pointing directly to the arrival of a new generation of this series. And so, the firmware code for the Mac Mini M1 from 2020 was “Macmini9.1” and the final Intel model from 2018 was “Macmini8.1”.
Unfortunately, this discovery remains here, no details of possible specifications are known yet which will do the same. Although this did not remove Troughton-Smith himself from sharing his predictions, which, although initially indicating that the new Mac Mini would be able to jump directly to Apple M2 processors, eventually focused on M1 Pro and M1 Max models.
And that’s because previous models of this compact computer have proven to be more than capable of offering fast, cool and quiet performance. In fact, one of its main weaknesses was that, compared to other Windows-oriented compact computers, the previous Mac Mini had a somewhat narrower connection sectionwhich offers few USB-C ports and less than expected storage and memory capacity (the latter is actually one of the biggest headaches because it can’t be upgraded).
While we don’t currently have any details on when we might expect the next Mac Mini to arrive, we’d love to see a device that addresses these small shortcomings.
