It was noted that the electric car manufacturer has notified the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it will update the software of the automatic window adjustment system over a wireless network. The recall affects certain 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2021 Model Y, and 2021-2022 Model S and Model X vehicles.
NHTSA said vehicles do not meet the federal motor vehicle safety standard’s requirements for power windows because a window closing without a proper automatic reversing system could “apply excessive force, pinching the driver or passenger and increasing the risk of injury.”
Tesla said it was not aware of any warranty claims, accidents, injuries or deaths related to the identified problem.
Tesla discovered the problem during testing in August and rolled out the update to new cars starting September 13.
Tesla said the software update “improves the calibration of the vehicle’s automatic window system behavior.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has criticized the term “remember”, saying the cars only need a minor software update.
“The terminology is outdated and imprecise. This is a minor over-the-air software update. As far as we know, no one was injured,” he said.
