A large number of complaints appeared on the network from users of Google Photos (Google Photos). Over the past few days, users have started noticing “artifacts” in their old image backups.

The issue seems to affect photos uploaded more than five years ago. The photo shows lines, dots, “deep cracks” and what looks like water spots that weren’t in the original downloads.

Judging by the complaints in the support section of the service, old images can be damaged in various ways. At the same time, users are reporting Google Photos works across all platforms.

Interestingly, some users have reported that opening damaged photos in the Google Photos image editor removes artifacts. This indicates that the original versions may have been corrupted. However, we will have to wait for Google to make an official statement on the subject. Source
