Vladislav Demidov, Deputy Head of the Metallurgical and Materials Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that Argentina and Chile have suspended the supply of lithium raw materials to Russia. This can cause problems in the manufacture of batteries and energy storage systems.
“Russia has no lithium raw material production, the raw materials come mainly from Chile, Argentina, China and Bolivia in the form of lithium carbonate. In real conditions, where shipments from Chile and Argentina have been stopped, and the opportunity to buy raw materials is available only now from Bolivia. ” Vladislav Demidov
Theoretically, China can supply lithium raw materials, but this country itself is experiencing a severe shortage. Demidov added that Russia has the capacity to process lithium for both need and export.
“The problem with lithium is already huge, because if raw materials are refused from Bolivia, Chile and Argentina, they will not supply us with raw materials, then unfortunately we have nowhere to get lithium raw materials. it could be a big problem. Vladislav Demidov
