Brave introduces translator, reading list and improves Tor support

It’s the time of the month when the major web browsers on the market release their new versions, and if we talk about Chromium derivatives, Brave is the one that usually brings interesting news from time to time, such as: custom translator, reading list, network support improvements Thor…

In fact, everything that the new version of Brave brings a brave 1.44 plus it’s homemade. The new features in Chromium 106, the version it is based on, are all technical in nature and have no practical meaning for the end user. Therefore, we will not review anything about Chrome 106 as it is a copy of Chromium. We’ll have to see Microsoft Edge 106, but in the meantime…

Meanwhile, Brave 1.44 released an update for all its users on PC (Linux, Mac, Windows) a few days ago, and in addition to the usual fixes and optimizations, it introduces three excellent news, although the qualification of the news will depend a bit on the user, since there are those who received it earlier, and those who didn’t get them. For example, we are talking about the reading list, this feature inherited from Chromium/Chrome, and the fact that Brave is slowly being debugged.

That’s how it is with Brave 1.44, isn’t it reading list it takes its position next to the rest of the sidebar options, which is not quite the same as Chromium/Chrome presents by default. Come on, now you can add what you want to check later, and it won’t fit well in bookmarks. This feature is the first of the features mentioned in the release notes for this version.

Another long-awaited feature that finally seems to be finally available to the entire Brave user base is integrated website translator. Its deployment began in the summer, but it was slow to reach everyone. Be that as it may… what is it all about? Basically, it’s a clone of Chrome’s own feature, with the same shape and options.

If by chance it didn’t appear when you entered the page in a language other than your browser’s default, it may be because you installed the Google Translate extension that Brave recommended for new users, in which case you should uninstall it; Or maybe it’s because you haven’t activated the above option found in: “Settings>Languages>Use Brave translator”.

What are the advantages of the new Brave translator over the Google Translate extension? In practice, none; Additionally, it lacks the ability to translate text selections like the Brave translator does. However, this translation does not go through Google, so it respects the user’s privacy. And it is because it was not accepted that a browser like Brave would pull such a component.

Finally, brave improves Tor network support with support for plug-in transports and bridge repeaters, two features for power users who still need more accessible integration.
