The American company General Atomics (GA) is developing a hybrid engine for the promising MQ-Next stealth drone. This was reported by Breaking Defense.
A flying wing drone concept was presented at the US Air Force Association’s conference. Mike Atwood, senior director of future programs at General Atomics, noted that the device could receive a power plant built on “breakthrough technology.”
“We believe GA will pioneer a new way of powering air-breathing aircraft. This is a fairly revolutionary technology that will be introduced in the coming years. It basically uses a hybrid electric system where you put the Tesla Model S and the RQ-170 together and you have an all-electric airplane.”– noted Atwood.
General Atomics Aviation Systems President Dave Alexander noted that the new power plant will allow the aircraft to stay in the air for up to 60 hours without refueling.
