Sony will wait at least a year before bringing the PS5 exclusive to PC

Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, confirmed in an interview that the release of exclusive PS5 game adaptations on PC It will take at least a year. This means that users of Sony’s next-gen console will enjoy a year of exclusivity, and this period is set to a minimum, meaning it could last longer in some cases.

If we look at the approach that Sony has taken in this regard, we realize that in general PS4 and PS5 exclusives took two to four years to release on PC. For example, Uncharted 4 came to PS4 in 2016, while Spider-Man Miles Molars came to PS4 and PS5 in 2020. Days Gone, another great PS4 exclusive, debuted in 2019 and came to PC in 2021.

I wanted to share these specific examples with you because they allow us to do just that set a specific pattern from the releases that Sony is making and because they clearly show what we can expect in the medium and long term. Hulst talks about one year as the minimum, but I’m inclined to think that for big exclusive triple A titles, the wait will end up being two years if their sales don’t reach the expected level and Sony will have to try to make them as profitable as possible.

According to the latest information we’ve seen, there will be more PS4 and PS5 exclusives coming to PC Horizon: Forbidden West and Ghost of Tsushima, although we don’t have specific dates yet, so I can’t tell you anything concrete. However, based on the arrival dates of both games on Sony consoles, logic tells us that Ghost of Tsushima should be the first to be ported to PC.

As for the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1, one of the most anticipated, everything seems to indicate that its arrival will be sometime in 2023. Hust also confirmed that sales of PC adaptations of PS4 and PS5 exclusives allowed for increased investment in triple-A games, and noted that PlayStation Studios plans to strengthen its commitment to the PC sector and mobile gaming. we recently saw rumors pointing to a possible launch of the launcher on PC.

Another front in which they also plan to strengthen their investments is in games as a service, and it is quite understandable, because this type of game can easily become a source of steady income, thanks to the game model as something alive, changing and evolving in real time to offer new experiences to players. Its monetization can be done in various ways like subscription model and micropayments. I leave the entire interview in the attached video.
