Buying a PS5 is still an almost impossible mission. The few stock exchanges that did occur were always insufficient and speculation and scalping continue to cause so much damage that getting a console at the recommended price is almost a dream.

It is no coincidence that the said console is not in stock in the retail channel and that we can find it many units on the used market at exorbitant pricesis a resale business that has been hurting consumers for two years.

Sony was very successful with the PS5, so much so that it wasn’t enough to meet the demand. Every piece that hit the stores was sold out, but this inability to satisfy the market is not good for the Japanese company, as it ends up losing the ability to get more money, and it makes some users finally decided to buy an Xbox Series XS or a PC given the impossibility of getting a PS5.

With that in mind, I’m not surprised by the news that Sony quadrupled PS5 shipments to the United States in September 2022. According to the news source, a total of 7.5 million kilograms of PS5 inventory was shipped to the country during this period, a figure that far exceeds the 1.5 million kilograms in the same month in 2021.

This is no coincidence either. Sony is gearing up for a Christmas campaignand that the sheer number of PS5 consoles hitting the US channel should allow many consumers to finally purchase a unit at RRP without having to face tedious queues and waits. It’s clear to me personally that I’m not planning to buy a PS5 anymore.

Unfortunately, we don’t have data about the European market, so I can’t tell you anything in advance. However see a significant improvement in the stock that the Xbox Series X has seen recently in Spain and due to the general price drop it has seen in the used market, I think Sony has every reason to act and improve the stock here, otherwise it could end up with a significant loss of potential sales. And no, bundles forcing the purchase of games and peripherals for 829 euros do not count.
