5G was launched in India earlier this month. Airtel offers services in eight cities in India, while rival Reliance Jio is set to roll out its latest generation cellular network services by Diwali this month. Prior to the introduction of 5G, many smartphone manufacturers launched 5G compatible devices. However, not all devices support networking out of the box and require a software update.

Earlier today, Cupertino-based Apple confirmed that it will enable 5G on compatible iPhones by December of this year. Now its rival, South Korean brand Samsung, has officially announced the calendar for the introduction of 5G on its devices. The company plans to release a firmware update for 5G connectivity on Galaxy smartphones by mid-November. This will allow users to enjoy faster 5G services on their compatible smartphones.

Some Samsung phones are already 5G ready, meaning they won’t need to update their software to access the cellular network. The list includes the Galaxy S22 series, Z Flip 4, Z Fold 4, S21 FE, M33, A33 5G and A53 5G. The rest of the 5G compatible phones will need an update to enable networking on the Samsung device.

A Samsung representative commented on the 5G rollout schedule:Samsung has been leading the development of 5G technology since 2009 and plays a leading role in the standardization of 5G technology worldwide. In India, Samsung has the largest portfolio of 5G devices. We are working closely with our carrier partners and aim to roll out the OTA update to all our 5G devices by mid-November 2022 so that Indian consumers can enjoy a smooth 5G experience.”
