The American space agency NASA plans to launch the Artemis I rocket to the moon on November 14.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to CNN.

The 69-minute launch window for the Space Launch System rocket will begin at 12:07 ET.

If the launch is successful, the 98-metre-high rocket will send the Orion spacecraft on a journey around the moon to test its systems. The mission is expected to be crewless and take 25 days. The spacecraft is scheduled to land in the Pacific Ocean on Friday, December 9.

Backup launch windows are scheduled for November 16 and 19.

The overall goal of NASA’s Artemis project is to return humans to the moon for the first time in half a century. Artemis I’s mission is to test the rocket, spacecraft and all its systems to ensure they are safe for astronauts.

The Space Launch System rocket is a modern analogue of the Saturn V, which brought NASA astronauts to the moon in the 1960s and 1970s.

As Ukrinform reported, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has canceled the launch of the SLS launch vehicle with a space module as part of the Artemis 1 Moon mission scheduled for August 29. The reason for this decision was a problem with one of the rocket’s four engines.

The next launch attempt was blocked by Hurricane Yan.
