The Verge reports the release of the AirBell bike bell, which can accommodate Apple’s AirTag. Bicycle theft is an unpleasant reality in many major cities. This gadget lets you track down a lost bike using Apple’s branded tag.
What makes the AirBell, $19 in the US or €25 in Europe, is that it’s similar to the usual cheap bike bells you’ll find on most city bikes. There’s no sign of an AirTag inside (you’ll have to buy it separately for $30). Therefore, it is unlikely that a thief will decide to remove it after stealing a bicycle.
AirBell takes less than five minutes to install and you have to do a certain procedure for removing the bell, i.e. without knowing it cannot be opened inside. AirBell is designed for 22mm diameter handlebars. There’s also a 31.8mm version of the AirBell for road and gravel bikes. The gadget is on sale in Europe and deliveries to the US will begin next week.
