Samsung shared its new plans that will transform the entire health and safety ecosystem

Samsung continues its innovations for users’ health, wellness and safety habits and its contribution to the ecosystem without delay. Finally, the company introduced new opportunities and solutions to users and developers around the world ahead of the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC 2022).

New tools introduced by Samsung in health, wellness and safety include the Samsung Privileged Health SDK program and the Fall Detection API (Application Programming Interface), which supports user safety. This program offers several opportunities for business partners and new research solutions that Samsung has developed for healthcare professionals and healthcare programmers.

Samsung Privileged Health SDK measures fatigue, sleep and stress while driving

Samsung continues to partner with industry leaders in developing personalized healthcare. Under these collaborations, it aims to create a safer driving experience by detecting information such as driver fatigue, stress symptoms and stress level.

For this, Samsung is working with world leader Tobii, which develops software that monitors eye movements and measures attention level and fatigue. Samsung’s Privileged Health SDK allows users to see real-time information, such as heart rate and sleep level, provided by Tobii’s Galaxy Watch sensors. Collaborate with Samsung; Harman, one of the leading companies in connected vehicle technologies, sound systems and IoT solutions, stands out in the field of driver safety with its Ready Care platform. In addition to detecting factors such as distraction and fatigue, Ready Care can also measure the stress level of drivers and offer alternative route suggestions that reduce stress.

Continuing to develop new solutions for healthcare

Samsung continues to offer developers and third-party healthcare APIs that allow them to use the Galaxy Watch’s sensor information and algorithms. That’s why the company announced that it has launched a new API that provides adjustable sensitivity to ‘Fall Detection’ and strengthens personal health and safety.

In addition, developers can combine different sensors, including the accelerometer and gyroscope, to create new solutions based on the use of Galaxy Watch’s ‘Fall Detection’ algorithms. This API also paves the way for the development of various applications for unexpected accident situations. Galaxy users can also set the sensitivity levels they want to use when not on the road or exercising via the Galaxy Wearable app. In addition to measuring movements during sleep to improve sleep patterns, this API, which can detect falling out of bed, opens up brand new possibilities for developers and users alike.

Samsung, using technology contributes to research, hospitals and clinics

Samsung is also presenting a new open source project that will provide users with unified and end-to-end solutions for various healthcare applications. This all-in-one healthcare system supports medical research in clinics, hospitals and wellness centers, among others. Galaxy Watch delivers advanced information through smartwatches and wearable technologies and can deliver data to research and clinics from the developer level. In addition, flexible survey templates will be provided to meet the ever-changing needs of healthcare facilities. This makes it easier to collect data from portable devices and better guide users. Encrypted participant data can then be sent to the data store for patient treatment and other research by healthcare professionals. Sebastian Seung, head of the Samsung R&D team, will announce the curious details about this new project at the SDC22 event.

One set of APIs for new fitness and wellness experiences: “Connecting health”

The Health Connect API, which Samsung announced in early 2022 in partnership with Google, will enable developers to create new fitness and health solutions. Currently available in beta, Health Connect also offers privacy controls that users can manage from one place. In addition to leading health and wellness apps such as Leap Fitness, MyFitnessPal and Withings, Samsung Health and Fitbit have now announced that they are using Health Connect, which offers a more rewarding wellness experience. Depending on the user’s consent, app developers may also use certain data shared through Health Connect in their own apps.

Samsung Electronics Vice President and Mobile Experience Division, Head of Healthcare R&D Team TaeJong Jay Yang“Our advanced hardware and sensor technologies continue to drive our healthcare products and services. These technologies are powered by our open ecosystem and collaborative approach. As Samsung, we will continue to contribute to improving tracking and data collection tools in wearable products. In this way we contribute to developers to offer more effective solutions in the field of health, well-being and safety. On this occasion, we are pleased to share our new developer tools, APIs and services for our partners.” said.
