Our readers speak: what processor are you using and why?

The processor is the brain of the computer, that is, it is one of the most important parts of any PC because it functions as universal solution and is in charge of converting all received signals and instructions into others that can be interpreted by the rest of the components. For example, the processor it’s the one that “feeds” the GPU so it can do its job normally and also interferes with tasks as simple as opening a folder or file and others as complex as rendering an image in parallel.

This “central” role that it plays in every computer means that ultimately the performance of this very processor dependent, and that other components are heavily dependent on it. Continuing with the previous example, a high-performance GPU can be severely hampered by a low-power processor in games, especially if we are moving at resolutions lower than 4K, because this he won’t be able to work at the pace he needs throw at high fps.

intel processor

Choosing a processor for our PC is one of the most important decisions we will have to make, and it It will largely depend on our budget and our needs.. In my case, it was pretty clear to me when I last refreshed my computer that I needed a chip with high single-threaded performance to run current games smoothly, and I didn’t need more than 8 cores and 16 threads because I wasn’t going to use applications that required multithreading.

With that in mind, the decision wasn’t difficult in the end I have a Ryzen 7 5800X because it met all those requirements and also had very low consumption and its temperatures were very good. The price was higher than the equivalent model from the previous generation, but the difference between the two in games made me go for the Zen 3 based model.

This processor is the one I use in my PC today and I am very happy with it as it has given me excellent performance and more than met my expectations. With the arrival of Ryzen 7000 and Core Gen13, it was clearly surpassed, but I do not plan to change the configuration in the short or medium term, because that processor Still more than meets my needs.

Now it’s up to you which processor to use and why? The comments are yours, we read each other.
