You already know that Microsoft has changed Windows development (again) with a new engineering plan that would lead to a three-year major release cycle. Or what is the same, new Windows every three years. This cycle is not new, it was already used in Windows 7 or Vista and will probably be released with Windows 12.
Three years is a long time in the ever-evolving world of technology, and to compensate, Microsoft would increase the rollout of new features with four annual deliveries. This engineering program is internally called “Moments” and enables update the system with faster feature delivery.
In fact, Moments 1 arrived last week with almost more interesting features (tabbed file explorer or taskbar overflow, among others) than the general version of Windows 11 22H2, which brought very few new features. Next up is Moments 2, again developed alongside the generic version. If Microsoft manages to reduce bugs while keeping the system up to date, we welcome the changes.
