Microsoft today released emergency update KB5020953 to fix the OneDrive crash issue that the company recently reported. Microsoft has developed several scenarios where OneDrive will crash or shut down. This was the second major bug since Tuesday’s October patch released earlier in the month. First, it caused major network problems as it was the result of TLS/SSL handshake failures.
Build numbers 19042.2194, 19043.2194 and 19044.2194 have been upgraded with this OOB update KB5020953. The update is available for Windows 10 versions 20H2, 21H1, 21H2 and 22H2 for both Arm and x86/64. Microsoft has not disclosed exactly how it fixed the problem. The changelog for the update only says:
It will fix the issue that causes Microsoft OneDrive to stop working. This happens after you disconnect your device, stop syncing, or sign out of your account.
As this is a first release, the update is not available via Windows Update in Settings. Instead, you must manually download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog site. You can find the updates here.
