As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Xinhua.
The map itself was created at a scale of 1:2,500,000 and shows the composition and distribution of 17 types of mineral aggregates on the surface of Earth’s only satellite.
During the implementation of the Chinese lunar exploration program, a large amount of information was collected, which “serves as primary data sources for this lithological mapping.”
This map is particularly useful for developing a drilling plan, choosing a landing site and collecting samples etc. It can be used for further lunar studies.
It also serves as a reference point for drawing maps of terrestrial planets in the future.
Printed and electronic versions of the map will be published in Chinese and English.
As Ukrinform reports, a group of international astronomers has created the most detailed map of our galaxy in 3D format.
