Microsoft will provide free technical support to Ukraine

Microsoft announced that it will continue to provide free technology support to Ukraine until 2023 while Russia continues to occupy the country. According to a recent blog post by Microsoft President Brad Smith, the software giant’s aid is worth nearly $100 million, putting Microsoft’s total support for Ukraine to over $400 million since the start of the war in late February.

“This enables government agencies, critical infrastructure and other industries in Ukraine to continue using their digital infrastructure and serving citizens through the Microsoft Cloud,” Smith said.

Smith also stressed the importance of protecting Ukraine’s data security:

Microsoft and others have placed digital infrastructure in the public cloud, supporting key Ukrainian services through their data centers across Europe. As Microsoft’s June report highlights, this has played a critical role in maintaining the resilience and security of Ukrainian data and digital services, even in the face of Russian cruise missiles and other kinetic attacks on Ukrainian government data centers and other physical assets.

Since the beginning of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Ukraine has also been repeatedly attacked by cyberattacks. In this context, Microsoft stated that it will continue to support Ukraine in its critical cybersecurity protection. The company will also support non-profit and humanitarian organizations working in Ukraine, Poland and other European Union countries, as well as international organizations helping Ukraine and fighting war crimes against civilians.

Smith concludes that Microsoft is confident that other technology companies will also take steps to provide support that is critical not only for Ukraine, but also for “international stability and the protection of fundamental rights in Europe and the world.”
