The foldable iPad will be the first Apple device to come with this kind of technology, Samsung said at a recent supplier meeting.

Samsung is sweeping the sale of folding smartphones and intends to maintain its privileged position with the launch of the new Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4. Although this form factor is still an absolute minority in the large mobile market (mainly due to its high price, which distances it from mass consumption) all indications are that it will continue to prevail. Apple’s response is long overdue, but analysts don’t expect it until 2025.

First up, the foldable iPad

While waiting for the iPhone Fold, information has appeared that talks about tablet as Apple’s premiere in a new generation of foldable devices. The rumor doesn’t come from anyone, but from Samsung Mobile Experience’s business dealings with suppliers. Remember that Samsung is Apple’s biggest competitor in mobile devices and also one of its main suppliers, especially display panels, which are ultimately the main part of everything foldable.

This is not the first time we have heard the news about the foldable iPad, and recently CCS Insight analysts listed it as one of the innovations that Apple is working on for 2024. Of course, given Samsung’s capacity in supplying components, it may be that they have privileged information.

The question is not yes, but when. Although Apple has the privilege of following its own pace in the product launch calendar, it does not escape industry trends and leaves the way open while Samsung continues to sell more than 70% of foldable phones. Less improbable was that it premiered with an iPad and not an iPhone.

At the same meeting where this information emerged, Samsung said it hoped so the folding machine market will grow at an annual rate of 80% by 2025.. Apple will not be left out of the new cake that has opened up new flexible / foldable screen technologies.
