One of the problems of modern electronics is the huge amount of waste generated from it, both during production and disposal. That’s why researchers are looking for ways to reduce the amount of waste. One of the options was the idea of creating printed circuit boards from paper.
This option was proposed by researchers from Binghamton University in the USA. It goes without saying that such boards cannot be used everywhere. They can be used in IoT systems, various sensors, distribution systems, medical sensors and environmental monitoring systems.
Given that paper is an environmentally friendly material, such cardboard can be easily thrown away. For boards, it is recommended to use special waxed paper on which conductive traces will be printed.
At the same time, such boards will require additional packaging that can protect them from moisture. So far, nothing has been reported about the commercial release of similar boards or devices based on them. Source
