Sometimes an unexpected smile on a stranger’s face can completely change your mood and your entire next day. And indeed, we hope that this cheerful “smile” of the Sun, projected by the SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) space observatory, will play the same role.
Of course, the “smile” we see in the pictures shown here is not that kind of smile. But all these forms, which the brain leads into an image we are all familiar with through the phenomenon of pareidolia, are coronal holes, dark regions where rapid and powerful explosions spew streams of solar winds.
It so happened that in a series of constant oscillations of the solar corona, two coronal holes became like eyes, and the third – like a curved mouth in a smile. And even if all this is a coincidence of mysterious solar physics processes, it won’t keep you upbeat. So enjoy yourself, always try to find the positives wherever possible and let our Sun be a shining example! Source
