The Boeing X-37B, an American unmanned military spacecraft, broke a new mission record by returning to Earth after 908 days in orbit.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Space.com.
The drone landed on the runway of NASA’s spaceport in Florida at 1:22 p.m. Kyiv time on Saturday.
Launched into space in May 2020, the vehicle spent a total of 908 days in orbit, four months longer than previous X-37B flights.
The X-37B drone is said to be similar to NASA’s decommissioned space shuttle, but much smaller, measuring just 8.8 meters from nose to tail.
Instead, the Space Shuttle was 37m long and manned – another key difference due to the X-37B being autonomous.
The US Space Force is believed to have two X-37B vehicles, both supplied by Boeing. To date, the duo has completed six orbital missions, each known by the symbol OTV.
As reported by Ukrinform, the cargo spacecraft “Tianzhou-5”, carrying cargo to the Chinese space station, successfully docked.
