Microsoft has announced two services that will be removed from their Office mobile apps by the end of this year.
The first is File Transfer. It allows you to transfer files between an Office program and a computer. The process involves opening a URL and scanning a QR code to pair the two devices and transfer content. Microsoft believes File Transfer can be easily replaced by OneDrive, which integrates “seamlessly” with Office.
Another feature that will disappear from the Office mobile app is Share Nearby. As the name suggests, the service allowed content sharing between Android devices at close range. However, Microsoft believes that this capability does not meet all current customer needs.
File Transfer and Share Nearby services will be discontinued on December 31, 2022. Microsoft emphasized that these steps were taken to develop Microsoft 365 for mobile devices.
